Arrrrgh. So, this week I had to write my monthly film column for the
local Christian newspaper, and on a whim, since nothing in the theatres
looked all that interesting or looked like it would stick around, I
decided to run with Bible videos -- the bulk of which is a sorry-we-
procrastinated review of _The Gospel of John_, which has been on video for
a few months, with a few brief comments on the new 'special edition' of
_The Ten Commandments_ tacked on. In the course of my review, I mention
in passing that _The Gospel of John_ was never released to Vancouver
theatres; the word "released" was key, since I knew someone had four-
walled a theatre for a single morning screening, but that was it. I sent
the review in a couple days ago; the paper went to press last night.
And then, this morning, I open up the Georgia Straight's website. I check
their movie listings for the coming week, as I do every Thursday. And I
see that _The Gospel of John_ will be showing twice a day at the Cinemark
Tinseltown theatre, starting tomorrow. Arrrrgh. And I had joined the
movie's e-mail list and everything, which was supposed to tell you if the
film was coming to your neighbourhood, etc.
Oh well. On the one hand, a happy coincidence -- the fact that I happened
to review the film in the issue of the paper that happens to be coming out
the same weekend as the film. On the other hand, a bit of a missed
opportunity -- I could have referred to its current theatrical release, if
only anybody involved had thought to, y'know, *promote* the film.
