On the mecanical side all Toyota parts work on the truck! I need a
windscreen and cant get one in South Africa

That is the possible thing to do, I also faced the same. replaced the
brushes & bearing.
try that, if wont settle your problem pls let me know I will be able to
help you
finding a good alternator.

But I need the seirial no & some pictures.

I dont know if this will help, but I was in Mexico a couple of years ago,
and had a similar problem. I went to a parts store, and they actually had
a kit for it. Thats if it is the brushes. There is also a "universal"
brush kit at most parts stores. If it's a bearing, and you cant find a
kit, pull the bearing, get the serial number, and go to a Whisler Bearing
or similar bearing supply, and they will get it for you. Hope this helps.
(It's actually pretty easy to do.)
