We will close the series on Thursday, May 14 with the 23-year old composer and pianist Timothy Andres. He will perform many of his own original pieces, including works by Charles Ives, Frederic Rzewski, Washington D.C. area composer Steve Gorbos and Ingram Marshall. Mr. Andres appears at Strathmore two days after a world premiere with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Currently pursuing a graduate degree at the Yale School of Music, Timothy Andres's compositions were praised by Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times, who pointed out that the "acuteness of Mr. Andres's ear lends intricacy to the layered lines and pungency to the piercing harmonies." Richard Dyer of The Boston Globe also admired a recent performance: "Andres had no trouble taking the audience along with him wherever he wanted to go-new music cannot be intimidating when played with this degree of skill and zest."
