Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic 2008-09 Composition Competition
Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic (WMP) is a 60-70 musician orchestra that performs in Washington, DC and Alexandria, Virginia (www.wmpa.us). The Philharmonic will conduct a composition competition during its 2009-10 concert season. The ultimate purpose of this competition will be to select an outstanding composer and to then showcase two of his/her major works during the next concert season (2010-11). From compositions submitted this summer, one composition from each of three different composers will be selected. The selected compositions will be performed during the February concert series of the regular 2009-10 concert season. A jury consisting of Philharmonic musicians, and audience and Board members will select one winner. WMP will then perform two major works by the winning composer during the 2010-11 concert season.
