Dear Friends,
I am pleased to announce the 5th season of the Evolution
Contemporary Music Series! We have several exciting
developments to share:
NEW SEASON
This season's theme is "A Sense of Place."
Each program focuses on dynamic, engaging new music from a
particular geographical region or broadly defined
"scene." From Finnish and English composers to
Americans at home and abroad, a question persists: in an
increasingly global and virtual culture, does the national
or cultural origin of music -- a sense of place -- still
matter?
NEW AMSTERDAM
Our first concert, on 10/20/09 at 8:00pm, is entitled
"New Amsterdam," and features the NOW Ensemble.
Hailed as "a polished, versatile chamber
group...combin[ing] the formal elegance of chamber music
with a pop-honed concision" (Steve Smith, Time Out New
York), NOW Ensemble is one of many acts featured on New
Amsterdam Records, a haven for young New York composers and
performers whose music slips through the cracks between
genres. On this concert, NOW performs music by Timothy
Andres, Patrick Burke, Mark Dancigers, Stephen Gorbos, Judd
Greenstein, Missy Mazzoli and Anthony Suter, with premieres
by John Altieri and Kirsten Volness. Join us at 7:00pm for a
pre-concert conversation with Judd Greenstein, composer and
co-founder of both NOW Ensemble and New Amsterdam Records.
The concert will be followed by a wine reception with the
artists. Please call or stop by our venue, An Die Musik --
409 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201, 410.385.2638 --
to reserve a seat. Tickets are $15/$10 students, or $45/$30
students for a 4-concert season subscription.
NEW WEBSITE
We have just launched our new website,
www.evolutionseries.org, designed by ycArt Design Studio.
There you will find more information about the series and
this season's events, along with press, photos and audio
from past seasons and links to featured composers and
performers. You can also sign up for our new mailing list --
which will soon replace emails from this address -- and make
donations to the series via PayPal. Your contribution will
help sustain the series' commitment to the music of
living composers by funding performance fees, travel and
accommodations for artists, as well as publicity and audio
and video recording. Any support you can offer is greatly
appreciated!
NEW NETWORKS
Follow the Evolution Series on Twitter and Facebook! (Note
that this new Facebook page will replace the existing one;
if you are friends with the series, please take a moment to
become a fan on the new page.)
I hope you'll spend some time on the new website, and
more importantly, join us for the season ahead!
Best wishes,
Judah Adashi
