Community: 200,000 Expected at Dili Independence CPLP Music Festival

    Top musicians from the seven nations of the Community of
Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) will perform at an open-air
concert for an estimated 200,000 people outside Dili on East Timor´s
independence day.

    Organizers of the first CPLP music festival told Lusa in Lisbon
Monday that the concert May 20 would be broadcast by television and
radio networks of the seven participating countries.

    East Timor will join the CPLP as its eighth member at

    Among the participating musicians are Luis Represas and the
Delfins rock group from Portugal, Brazilians Martinho da Vila and
Fafa de Belem, Ildo Lobo from Cape Verde, and Irmaos Kafala from

    Hortencio Langa represents Mozambique, Dulce das Neves Guinea-
Bissau, and Juka Sao Tome and Principe.

    The concert at Tacitolo, eight kms from Dili, will open with
all the musicians and the crowd joining in singing Represas´s famed
"Timor", a resistance anthem he composed after Indonesian security
forces massacred scores of demonstrating East Timorese youths in Dili
in 1991.
