ADV: Food For Fines at Nashville Public Library 11/9-11/24, 2009  Robinson, Suzanne (Library)
 Nov 05, 2009 12:08 PST

November weather reminds us of being fortunate to have food and shelter. As we look forward to Thanksgiving with anticipation we are also reminded there are many throughout Middle Tennessee who are in need. The economy is affecting so many people and at he Mayor's request, all Metro departments are responding by joining with Second Harvest Food Bank to conduct a food drive Starting Monday, November 9 and ending on Tuesday, November 24. The Library is participating by rescheduling our annual Food for Fines from January to the next two weeks.

As in previous years, $1.00 will be waived from your outstanding overdue fees for each non-perishable food item donated during the Food For Fines drive. This is a good way to clear off those pesky video fines that you accrued. There are exceptions to what can be waived.

Fees NOT covered by Food For Fines:

* Replacement costs for items billed
* Replacement fees for missing pieces of multi-part items
* Collection agency fees
* Card replacement fees
* Future overdue fines (i.e. creating a credit on an account)

Food item must be non-perishable.

We will gladly accept food in cans, package, boxes, and plastic containers.

We CANNOT accept the following:

1. Anything in glass containers

2. Anything in dented, rusted or swollen cans

3. Anything that has been opened

4. Pre-packaged diet foods (Nutra-Systems, Jenny Craig, etc.)

We will be happy to take donations even you don't have any qualifying fines on your account.

Last year our very generous patrons donated over 46,000 pounds of food during the Food For Fines drive. That was double the donations of the previous year. Please help us help you and our neighbors in need by beating last year's total donations.

Please share this information with your friends and neighbors, people you associate with at church, work, clubs and other organizations.

Thank you for your help and your support of the Nashville Public Library.
