Very interesting subject you've raised here, Alex.

Look in section 5.3 of sq94.pdf where it says, "Actually, a stroke can
even be defined in terms of itself by first laying out the applications
of a special stroke named 'self'." Renaming the stroke you want to
self-reference would certainly eliminate the error message you're
getting - assuming I'm reading this correctly.

Please keep me posted on your progress. This is very interesting indeed.
I'll play with this concept myself when time allows (in a day or so).
