Well, even though I could not use the "self" stroke to create a true
fractal/self-referential stroke, nonetheless one can gets some really
fun effects by creating strokes that make an Interated Function System.
Here is a plant made from 3 strokes - Leaf1, Leaf2 and Leaf3. Each one
is composed of the one before, with 2-3 strokes in it's definition box.
Leaf2 and Leaf3 are repeating, but Leaf1 is not repeating.
