A "101 Best Websites for Writers"
Choice by Writer's Digest, May 2005
Dear Writing Friends,
Welcome to the Writing on the Run Tip of the Week.
We have the galley for our other new book, ANGEL HORSES, which is
scheduled to be released on October 28, 2006. We're carefully reading
it for errors or typesetting issues and find ourselves amazed at the
quality and substance of the featured stories in this book. We ask
ourselves how we could have accomplished something so beautiful in the
midst of working on our other totally time-consuming mini-hurricane of a
book, our Fall 06 release, RESCUED. Hard work, yes, but also a
determination to finish the task and achieve the goal. And yes, grace.
The touch of blessing that comes when you are trying so hard to give
service to life with your writing.
Remember, life is your page.
Today's Tip of the Week comes from Jeff Guy, a freelance writer living
in Kansas. He creatively takes the idea one set further of having a
notebook nearby for writing.
We hope these tips bring you closer to achieving your writing goals and
inspire you to share your own great ideas for how to enjoy writing, even
when life gets busy.
We invite you to e-mail this week's tip in its entirety to, other
writers who might benefit from it.
Sincerely,
Allen and Linda Anderson

TIP OF THE WEEK
KOOKY NOTEBOOK
By Jeff Guy
Buy a notebook with a goofy or cartoonish cover. It will give your
writing a charge. I bought a notebook featuring the TV cartoon
characters, The Simpsons, and my writing took on a satirical, sardonic
style.
My kids love SpongeBob SquarePants. So I bought a SpongeBob notebook
with a cover reminiscent of bebop jazz hi-fi albums from the '50s. The
cover freed my writing to be offbeat and eccentric.
You can't go wrong buying a visually appealing notebook, be it
SpongeBob, Pirates of the Caribbean, or Napoleon Dynamite. Your writing
doesn't have to match the clownish or kooky covers. Any writing the
notebook inspires is a good thing.

Jeff Guy is a freelance writer in Kansas. He has been published in the
Ark City Traveler, Wellington Daily News, Wichita Eagle, and Byline
magazine. (And now, Writing on the Run newsletter.)
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:
What notebook covers would match the themes and tone of your writing
projects?

WRITING QUOTES OF THE WEEK:
"Success is a finished book, a stack of pages each of which is filled
with words. If you reach that point, you have won a victory over
yourself no less impressive than sailing single-handed around the
world."
--Tom Clancy
"There are two kinds of writer: those that make you think, and those
that make you wonder."
--Brian Aldiss
"My goal in life is to be the exact same person to you, whether you've
met me for the first time or the 21st time. Your knowledge of me is
there from the beginning in an honest, brutal sort of way. Get your
writings to be there...in an honest, brutal sort of way, and you'll have
found your true voice."
--Joyce Jace
"Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader -- not the
fact that it is raining, but the feeling of being rained upon."
E.L. Doctorow
"I admire anybody who has the guts to write anything at all."
E. B. White

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR 100-WORD WRITING ON THE RUN IDEA
FOR THE TIP OF THE WEEK:
Mail to: writingo-@aol.com with your best 100-word idea for making
time and space to write. Include a 25-word bio. If we publish your
idea in the newsletter, you will receive a byline and the bio in which
you can mention your own writing projects. For those of you who are
starting to write, this is a good way to get a quick publication credit.
For seasoned writers, it's a generous way to share your knowledge with
struggling starters.
