A "101 Best Websites for Writers"
Choice by Writer's Digest, May 2005
Dear Writing Friends,
Welcome to Writing on the Run Tip of the Week.
We are founders and members of a writing group that meets every
Thursday. The rules are simple. Do first draft writing for one-hour
then read to the group what you've just written. It can be fiction,
non-fiction, poetry, wherever your creativity takes you. After you have
read your first draft writing, the other writers can give comments and
encourage the writer by expressing what works best.
Specific, positive comments give the writer encouragement and more to
work with when developing the piece later. If someone says, "The image
of the football worked for me," that is helpful. If someone says, "That
was nice," it is encouraging but not especially helpful. If you are in a
writer's group, try to give details in your feedback that will let the
writer know what is working.
We're announcing the 2007 Angel Dogs at Work True Story Contest in this
issue of the newsletter. The details are below in the announcement
section of the newsletter.
Also, please notice an announcement below about our publisher, New World
Library, offering a 20 percent discount on ALL of their books. We are
mentioning it because New World Library has been wonderful about
publishing and promoting our series of books for all of you.
Remember, life is your page.
We hope these tips bring you closer to achieving your writing goals and
inspire you to share your own great ideas for how to enjoy writing, even
when life gets busy. Send us your timesaving and inspiring tips for
writing on the run.
We invite you to e-mail this week's tip in its entirety to, other
writers who might benefit from it.
Sincerely,
Allen and Linda Anderson

TIP OF THE WEEK
LAWS OF VIBRATION AND OF RESISTANCE
By Allen and Linda Anderson
VIBRATION:
Notice when the people around you are reacting negatively to your desire
to write and to the fact that you are getting serious about achieving
your writing goals.
Talk with them honestly and listen to their concerns about how they are
"vibrating" because you (at the center of their universe) are changing.
RESISTANCE:
Notice the people who are sabotaging your writing. Are there friends or
family members who consistently call and deliberately interrupt your
scheduled writing time? Who makes snide remarks about or ridicules your
writing goals?
Have honest discussions about why they are doing this. In some cases,
these friends may be experiencing jealousy that you are doing something
meaningful and they are not. This may mean that you reevaluate your
relationship with envious friends or spend less time with them.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:
How can you deal with vibration and resistance in your efforts to write
on the run?

WRITING ON THE RUN QUOTES OF THE WEEK
"Read, read, read. Read everything - trash, classics, good and bad, and
see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice
and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it's
good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window."
--William Faulkner
"The ideal view for daily writing, hour on hour, is the blank brick wall
of a cold-storage warehouse. Failing this, a stretch of sky will do,
cloudless, if possible."
--Edna Ferber
"Omit needless words. Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should
contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for
the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a
machine no unnecessary parts."
--William Strunk, Jr.
