Angel Animals Story of the Week
February 17, 2007
Visit us at www.angelanimals.net
Dear Friends of Angel Animals,
Welcome to the Angel Animals Story of the Week.
Sunshine relaxes on Wednesday. He has the house, the mantle, and
quality time to spend singing his song, getting his bath, riding on our
shoulders, and looking out the window. Our dog Leaf is at doggie day
care on Wednesdays playing with other dogs and watching Animal Planet on
TV.
Sunshine is getting up there in age. Ever since he lost his mate
Sparkle, he has seemed lonely. Yet he's not the kind of bird who likes
to share his private space with anyone else. Sparkle was the exception.
This meant that we became his flock.
After we adopted Leaf to become part of our family, Sunshine initially
enjoyed all the drama with the new dog and the avenging cats. He
watched as if intrigued by a Made-for-TV movie as the three other
animals worked out their relationship. But Wednesdays are HIS day.
Do your animals have a special day?
We hope you enjoy this week's story about a kitten who transformed a
petless woman into an animal activist.
Email this newsletter in its entirety to your animal loving friends and
encourage them to sign up for our weekly publication. They will be
joining a terrific community of thousands of like-minded from people
around the world.
Animal blessings,
Allen & Linda Anderson

STORY OF THE WEEK
CAT CONVERTERS
By Jessica Maysack
We had a cat when I was growing up, but I had never owned a pet as an
adult. I was never an animal lover. I couldn't understand those who
treated their pets as family. I really thought they were all a little
off. They would tell their stories, and my response would be: Well, I
would never run over an animal. Still, I didn't want my sister's or
friends' pets anywhere near my stuff or me.
Two and one-half years ago, I brought home a kitten. I thought it would
be nice to have someone to come home to. And how my life has changed!
Emma is my "child." She has an in-your-face attitude. She cracks me
up. I cannot imagine my life without her. Watching Emma, I realized
that she is a living, breathing being. My attitude has completely
changed. I am now a vegetarian and animal activist.
My dream is to buy a farm with several acres to house rescued animals.
Last July, I brought home a sister for Emma. Sammie's parents could not
take her along when they moved to New York City. Sammie is the total
opposite of Emma -- laidback and cool.
This past Christmas I took my sister's Lab-a-doodle for a walk and
played with him in the park (and the cold) for an hour. My family and
friends are amazed by my transformation. I will never live in a
pet-free home again.

When did the aliens take over your body and convert you into an animal
lover?

ANGEL ANIMALS QUOTES OF THE WEEK
"Just as a stream flows smoothly on as long as it encounters no
obstruction, so the nature of man and animal is such that we never
really notice or become conscious of what is agreeable to our will; if
we are to notice something, our will has to have been thwarted, has to
have experienced a shock of some kind."
--Arthur Schopenhauer
"It is a matter to gain the affection of a cat. He is a philosophical
animal, tenacious of his own habits, fond of order and neatness, and
disinclined to extravagant sentiment. He will be your friend, if he
finds you worthy of friendship, but not your slave."
--Theophile Gautier
"Having horses in my life has allowed me to see the inner souls of so
many people in ways I never would have dreamed of. My heart soars when
I see a horse run free in a field; my mind is at peace when I see our
HUGE draft horse quietly accepting pats from a child in a wheelchair.
To see the smiles of my daughters and feel the love in their hearts when
they enter the barn and hug their own horses knows no bounds. I am
thankful for the nickers of our therapy horses when they see school
children piling off the bus and coming towards the barn. Most of all,
horses make us feel accepted and loved unconditionally. We could all
use more of that everyday!"

Riding Program, Virginia Beach
