Muzaffarpur: Twenty-two-year-old Sandeep Kumar suffers from
polio, but the disability did not stop this boy from inventing
a bicycle that can be folded and carried along.
"I cannot walk for long, that's why I thought I needed a cycle,
so I made one," says Sandeep.
It takes only five minutes for him to fix the cycle and get it
ready for a ride. The bicycle is more than a companion for him
now. However, making this machine was no easy task.
"He went to a recycling shop and collected pipes, which he then
cut according to his design and made the chassis," says his
friend Sanjay Kumar.
Sandeep's parents were not impressed with his ideas initially,
but now they are proud of their son.
"At first I thought he was just wasting money, but now I feel
that he will do something worthwhile," says Sandeep's father,
Barrister Babu.
Even President A P J Abdul Kalam has taken note of Sandeep's
efforts. The President's office has also shown interest in
Sandeep's invention.
Now, Sandeep is ecstatic, as he wants his bicycle to be of
use to the common man also.
Sandeep's handicap has not been a constraint in his life,
in fact it has helped him in discovering a solution for his
problems.
