Director, Interaction Design at Wimba, Inc.
Location: New York or Boston
Wimba's Product Development team is expanding and seeking a Director
of Interaction Design. This key role will work closely with product
managers, engineers, researchers, and customers throughout all stages
of the product cycle to provide the "face" of a next generation,
feature rich, synchronous and asynchronous collaboration suite for the
educational market. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding
of the market's needs and the ability to work cross-departmentally in
order to transform those needs into tangible software solutions. This
position reports to the Vice President of Product Management.
=EF=82=A7Create and be accountable for the user interaction model, workflow=
s,
information architecture, prototypes, and style guidelines for desktop
software application and web interfaces.
=EF=82=A7Conduct user and design research including: usability studies, use=
r
surveys, prototype testing, competitive product analysis, and latest
industry & design trend research.
=EF=82=A7Develop design concepts, user interface designs and wireframes.
=EF=82=A7Present and communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale to
cross-functional stakeholders.
=EF=82=A7Organize information by creating visualizations of content;
sequencing and relating elements; and preparing storyboards.
=EF=82=A7Document actions by creating functional descriptions and completin=
g
functional specifications with product manager.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable experience in the following a=
reas:
=E2=80=A2Bachelor's degree, or greater in Computer Science, Graphic Design =
or
related field; strong technical background a plus.
=E2=80=A2At least 5 years' experience in a software development environment=
.
=E2=80=A2Solid portfolio of previous projects or work and work/content
references will be checked against examples.
=E2=80=A2Solid working knowledge of CSS, HTML, Javascript, AJAX, and design
skills in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Expression or other design package.
=E2=80=A2Strong knowledge of cross-platform compatibility required.
=E2=80=A2Understanding of issues of accessibility in UI design.
=E2=80=A2Excellent verbal and written communication.
=E2=80=A2Must be self-motivated to prioritize and manage work load and meet
critical project milestones and deadlines.
=E2=80=A2Must be an effective problem solver.
=E2=80=A2Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good worki=
ng
relationships.
=E2=80=A2The candidate should be able to work independently or as part of a
team and must have the ability to learn new technologies.
=E2=80=A2Experience working with geographically distributed teams.
=E2=80=A2Conversant in engineering topics.
