There was recently a thread on the Mongolian Gerbil Forum warning
against using incense around gerbils. If you are going to use
anything scented (incense, candles, cleaners), please use caution and
consider not using these things in the same room as your animals and
if you can, close doors to minimize their exposure to airborne
chemicals.   Better safe than sorry.

My question is about burning incense in the presence of gerbils.
Prior to getting the two that I have now, I burned it daily, but
now I am wondering if that's okay. I only burn incense that
contains organic ingredients (they tend to be made in India or in
Southern China) and I never burn incenses with fake scent added. In
my mind, the organic qualities of the incense make it less harmful
both to humans and rodents alike. I used to burn fake incense and
it would really irritate me as there were a lot of chemical
additives. Does anyone have any additional information on incense
burning in the presence of rodents? I always properly ventilate the
room, and I never burn so much that the room is enveloped in a cloud.

I realize that burning anything that will be inhaled is not usually
a good thing, but incenses tend to be formulated to be light and
non-invasive. That said, I'm not sure about incense and gerbils!
What do you think?
