I haven't written anything to this group for a while, but I have a gerbil who is acting so strange right now, and I need to share.
He is 3 years old, and up until now has been a normal enough gerbil. Eat, sleep, pop, chew, etc. About 3 months ago he decided to kill his cagemate of 2 years. I did what I have always done, separate the boys, and give them lots to do and gnaw so they won't be lonely.
Now QuinnyB is doing the wierdest thing. He is hoarding his food. He takes it piece by piece to a habitrail satellite, and stuffs it all in. Every day we give him food, every day he takes it and hides it. And when his bowl is empty he will sit on it and GLARE at us, or scratch until he gets more food.
I think my gerbil is obsessed. There is no more room in the plastic satellite, and the food is packed so that every morning some has fallen out, and he spend a few hours arranging it back into a neat pile.
I wish he did dishes too.
I have had gerbils for years, and never has one acted this crazy!!
