*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*     Welcome to Giggles & Grins!   *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Harley's home! Actually, we got home last night, but I was both too
tired and too infatuated with my new baby to find time to send the
Giggles. Harley is everything the breeder told me he was, and more.
He's smart, fast and responsive. He's also extremely tiny, only 3 or 4
inches high at his shoulder. He's about the size of your average six
week old kitten, only dog shaped. We were kind of worried about the six
plus hour drive back from Bluefield, VA yesterday, but he slept almost
the entire time. I kept thinking about all of that terrier energy
everyone warned me about. He slept on me most of the trip, only going
into his crate when we ate lunch and when I needed to take care of the
map or other trip necessities. He woke up just in time to meet Dad and
the rest of the family. Dad said he looked like a mouse, which is
obviously not true. He looks like the rat that he is! My dogs,
Maverick and Indy, don't think much of him, but some of the cats are
intrigued by him, especially Caelidh and Tucker. He would play with any
of them, if they would oblige him, but he has to settle for me instead.
Right now he's attacking my bare feet, something he often does when he's
not sleeping on my lap or chest. He's already getting the hang of
housebreaking, which is astonishing in a six week old puppy. As my mom
says, it helps that I have been watching him every minute of the day
since I first picked him up yesterday morning. He wakes me up during
the night when he needs to go and when I take him outside, he
immediately takes care of business. He doesn't know how to ask to be
let out during the day, yet, but that shouldn't take too long for him to
learn. I plan on putting up a webpage or ten about him as soon as I
can. You are going to get soooo bored! Enjoy the Giggles!

From Maya - I had gone to Alex's class the last day of school before
Christmas break and at the end, they went to lunch and another Mom and I
were reading the kid's letters to Santa that were posted on the wall.
Miss Gill told us she told the kids to not be greedy and just ask for a
bunch of stuff only for themselves. Some of the letters were so cute.
One boy asked for a ring for his mom and tools for his stepdad before
asking for what he wanted. A lot asked about Rudolph. One boy ONLY
wanted a new Game Boy ($100) and a new computer so the other mom and I
were laughing at his 'inexpensive' but short list. Alex's letter was
unique, it started off with, "So how's the toy delivering business
going?" Can you tell he's the son of a businessman?

My dad's still driving at eighty-nine: "What red light? What open
drawbridge? Why is there a baby carriage on the hood?"

This is the little guy that I wanted to take home with Harley, but
didn't because it's not fair to either of them. If you're in the area,
though, and want a loving, intelligent pet, you might want to take a
look.

They ask the question, "What happened to all that futuristic stuff which
was supposed to change our lives by the year 2000?"

Smartness runs in my family. When I went to school I was so smart my
teacher was in my class for five years. ~~Gracie Allen

My last marriage was good. I remember being all happy and excited
about going on a river-rafting trip with my husband until my best friend
said, "Haven't you heard how many people die rafting?"

So I stayed home and took out a life insurance policy on my husband.

I had a hard time at the bank today. I tried to take out a loan and
they pulled a real attitude with me. Apparently, they won't accept the
voices in my head as references.

                     Quick Question

   Answer to yesterday's question -
Your hair pigment. The amount of melanin determines your hair color.
Blondes have little, redheads have some and brunettes have tons!

                     Useless Trivia

Does warm milk really help you sleep?

There doesn't appear to be a great deal of research on the role of
milk as a sleep aid. Milk is certainly a simpler alternative to
prescription sleeping pills or drinking so much you just pass out, and
there are several theories as to why it might work. Milk contains
tryptophan, the same ingredient that makes everyone sleepy after
Thanksgiving dinner. The warmth of the milk can have a minimal effect
on your body temperature and sometimes make sleep a little easier. Milk
also contains melatonin, which is a natural sleep aid. One company,
Night Time Milk in England, even sells milk from cows milked at night
when the melatonin is increased. The milk is marketed as a sleep aid,
proving that people will buy anything today.

A dog, I will maintain, is a very tolerable judge of beauty, as
appears from the fact that any liberally educated dog does, in a general
way, prefer a woman to a man. ~~Frances Thompson
