Reading 10.26, God At Eventide, Love Is Duty-Free
How human, how earth-bound are the thoughts man has of God. He judges of
Me and My Father by his own frail impulses and feelings.
There is in Divine Love no compulsion of duty from the loved one to the
Lover. Love draws, certainly, and then love longs to serve and to express
one's love.
But no question of duty in return for Love.
Comment: Psalm 103:8 The Lord is merciful and gracious; he is slow to get
angry and full of unfailing love. (NIV)
Paul best describes what true love is in 1 Corinthians 13. Earthly love
fails because it is primarily feelings and impulses. But love is the
greatest of all human qualities, and it is an attribute of God himself (1
John 4:8). Love involves unselfish service to others; to show it gives
evidence that you care. Faith is the foundation and content of God’s
message; hope is the attitude and focus; love is the action. When faith
and hope are in line, you are free to love completely because you
understand how God loves. Jesus' true love that He gives to us all is
unfailing and unconditional. He wants us to freely share it with the
world.
In John 2:1-12, the first recorded miracle performed by Jesus at the
Canna wedding in Galilee, Jesus expressed his love for His Mother, His
host, and quests by turning water into wine. His mother nor His host felt
the need to repay Him in any way for His action of love. - BR
