to enhance cultural understanding and celebrate diversity.
My vision is that every student in my class will be paired with a
student in yours for a period of approximately 1 month. They will
communicate about specific topics via a Wiki and learn about each
other's daily life. This will provide my students with a new
perspective into the country that they are studying. My hope is that,
if your students are studying the U.S., this could provide them with a
new perspective as well. At the end of that period of time, my students
will produce short movies about the country and culture they studied as
they understand it and will post these movies on a website such as
youtube. Then your students will be able to comment on it.

FULL PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
-- World Connection is designed to connect students across the world
to enhance cultural understanding and celebrate diversity.
My vision is that every student in my class will be paired with a
student in yours for a period of approximately 1 month. They will
communicate about specific topics via a Wiki and learn about each
other's daily life. This will provide my students with a new
perspective into the country that they are studying. My hope is that,

will produce short movies about the country and culture they studied as

youtube. Then your students will be able to comment on it.

OBJECTIVES:
-- Goals and Outcomes:

Students will need to determine how their ways of knowing, such as Sense
and Perception, Reasoning, Emotion, and Language play into their
understanding of the culture they are studying before meeting their
world-friend.

Students will learn from their world-friend about the daily life of
teenagers and adults in the region. They will also gain a different
perspective about the political, cultural, and economic situation in the
region. Student will also offer their own perspective on these issues
and seek to understand what lead each person to have their own
perspective. They will need to take into account how their way of
forming knowledge differed from the way their world-friend formed
knowledge.

Students will learn to be culturally sensitive and gain a greater
appreciation to contribution of other cultures and to the importance of
other countries in this world.

Students will reflect over how the experience of meeting people across
the world changes their way of thinking about the world. As well as
their perception of the the United States role in the world.

Students will re-examine how their ways of knowing (such as Sense and
Perception, Reasoning, Emotion, and Language) about a culture changed
through this process.

Students will become proficient at using Web 2.0 social networking
software such blogs and wikis to communicate with their world-friend.
They will also become proficient at filming and editing movies using
movie making software.

Objectives:

By the middle of 2nd week:

Student will complete a 1.5 page journal about their understanding of
the culture and the region before establishing a connection with their
world-friend. In this journal they will need to reflect about their
ways of knowing about the culture and the limitations of these ways.

Ongoing from Week 1 to Week 4:

Students will complete at least 8 blog / wiki entries to demonstrate
communication with their world-friend on a specific topic. This will be
done for 4 consecutive weeks and each week new topics will be discussed.

By the middle of Week 4:

In groups of 3, students will create a 3 to 5 minute movie that depicts
their understanding of the culture and country that they are studying.
They will post the movie on Youtube.

By the beginning of Week 5:

Students will complete a blog entry responding to their world-friend
opinion of their movies.

By End of Week 5:

Students will write a 3 page paper reflecting over how the experience of
meeting their world-friend informed them about this region and the world
in general. They will also need to reflect over their perception of the
the United States role in the world.

Optional: Students will complete a blog entry responding to the
world-friend's movies depicting life in California.
