Hello all.
While we're still in preparation and planning for live, "from the field"
videoconferencing from our dinosaur dig site in Montana (coming Summer 2007
if funding permits), Cincinnati Museum Center has started a blog so that the
general public can read all about the work (and play) of paleontologists in
the field on an actual dinosaur dig. Our researchers and others are posting
daily, or as access to the Internet and electricity permit.
Cincinnati Museum Center's Dinosaur Field School, now in its seventh year,
calls the northwestern flank of the Bighorn Mountains in south-central
Montana its home. For the first time, join vertebrate paleontologist Dr.
Glenn Storrs in the Dinosaur Field School Blog at
http://cincymuseum.blogspot.com <http://cincymuseum.blogspot.com> . Dr.
Storrs, along with museum preparator Mason Milam, volunteers and trip
participants will try to keep you updated on just what paleontological field
work is actually like. We hope to provide postings and photos that document
our progress as we work to uncover and collect dinosaurs from the Late
Jurassic, specimens that are approximately 140 millions years old. This is a
real research project, not merely a tourist opportunity, so everyone pitches
in and learns by doing. As it's a real project, conditions are real too. The
2006 Dinosaur Field School is running from late-July until mid-August.
Any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated…including
recommendations or suggestions of how we could adapt this experience to
videoconferencing to suit your needs.
