SENIORS FORUM ON MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY

WILL FEATURE REP. MICHAUD

The Maine Council of Senior Citizens will host an educational forum on
issues important to seniors and others on Tuesday April 6, 2004, at the
Piscataquis Region YMCA on Park Street in Dover Foxcroft from 10:30am to
noon.

The forum will focus on the Medicare drug plan recently passed by
Congress, Social Security, available prescription drug programs in
Maine, and prescription-buying bus trips to Canada.

U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud, who has introduced bills in Congress to
preserve Social Security and lower the costs of prescription drugs, will
be the special guest speaker.

"I want to thank the Maine Council of Senior Citizens for organizing
this forum. Maine's seniors have a right to know what the recently
passed Medicare legislation means for them. I want to work with the
Maine Council and other organizations to ensure that seniors everywhere
have access to affordable prescription drugs and that their Social
Security is protected." Congressman Michael Michaud stated.

"The subject of Medicare is very important to seniors, especially with
the changes passed by Congress last fall. The new Medicare law is very
complicated, and many seniors have no idea what the changes are," said
Neena Quirion, executive director of MCSC. "The Maine Council of Senior
Citizens wants all seniors in Maine to have as much information as
possible about Medicare, what the problems are, how the changes will
effect them and what changes need to be made to the new Medicare law."

Quirion said that the forum will be a great opportunity for seniors and
others to meet their Congressman and to enter into a discussion with him
about the direction of federal policies. She said that all area
residents and their friends and family are welcome to attend.
