I got the message below from another list. It's about Dr. Paul
Lindstrom's preparation of a class action suit that parents of children
in the public system can join if their children have suffered physical
or sexual abuse at school.
Does anyone know of any similar class action cases against schools?
Ben.

<AH-@home-ed-magazine.com> Just received the following from our NHA
contacts: The article below was e-mailed to me today. It was posted to
web page called Internet Wire:

30,000 PASTORS TOLD: ",
NOW" ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 07/21/99 -- SOS .CLASS
ACTION has just mailed 30,000 of the nation's pastors asking them to
pull their children out of the public school system and encourage their
congregations to do likewise. Dr. Paul Lindstrom, well known for his
activities, MIA, POW and U.S.S. Pueblo crew, and one of the pioneers of
the modern Christian homeschooling movement, has launched SOS. CLASS
ACTION to highlight the critical situation within the nation's public
schools.
Pastors are invited to observe August 1 or August 8 as "SOS Sunday" and
choose this day to publicly announce their decision to abandon the state
educational system, and begin schooling them using an explicitly
Christian curriculum.
Said Dr. Lindstrom, "Our nation's schools are in a crisis of almost
unimaginable dimensions. Since 1992 there have been 251 school-related
deaths, of which 195 involved the use of firearms. There are no reasons
to assume that the situation of moral decline and violence in public
schools will be remedied. The problem is not so much with the product of
the public school system, as with the institution itself.
The very concept of public education is fatally flawed. It is time for
Americans to leave the system, and leave it NOW."
SOS - CLASS ACTION is committed to the following four goals:
Litigation: Preparation of a class action suit that parents of children
in the public system can join if their children have suffered physical
or sexual abuse at school.
Legislation: Preparation of Federal legislation to require suitable
measures be taken in every public school to prevent the importation of
weapons to school buildings, and to ensure the safety of students while
attending class. This would include mandating metal detectors and x-ray
equipment at school entrances, armed security guards, and the
possibility of allowing school districts with limited budgets to train
their teaching staff in armed response, and allow them to carry weapons
during school hours.
Leaving: Alerting pastors to the critical need to lead their
congregations out of the public school system and into Christian
education. One Sunday of each year will be designated SOS Sunday, a day
to pray for children, and move decisively to rescue them from the public
school 'Titanic'.
Learning: Promote the use of Christian curricula, phonics, American
history, and a Christian world and life view. SOS - CLASS ACTION will
make available a special resource kit that will provide all the know-how
to allow any church to start their own Christian school.
Dr. Paul Lindstrom is the founder and co-pastor of the Church of
Christian Liberty, which for the past thirty years, through their
non-denominational educational ministry, Christian Liberty Academy
Satellite Schools (CLASS), has brought homeschooling to over 250,000
students. It has been their mission to assist parents in their God-given
duty of education through the provision of quality curriculum that
centers on the Bible, and teaches phonics from the earliest age. Their
20-acre campus in the heart of Arlington Heights, IL, also houses a 950
student K through 12 day academy, and their publishing division,
Christian Liberty Press.
