NATIONAL HOME EDUCATION WEEK - BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA  Quintessence

NATIONAL HOME EDUCATION WEEK

Dear friends,

18-24 May is National Home Education Week. This week will be a time for
home educators around Australia to celebrate home education and family.

There have been many varied and creative suggestions about what families
will be doing in their communities during that week. These include:
picnics in the local park; craft displays in the local hall; information
evenings; inviting friends, neighbours, local councillors, or Members
of Parliament into homes to see home education; stories in local and
statewide newspapers; daily talkback radio; TV appearances (regional,
state and national); and many other great ideas for events.

In this current climate of home school law review in Queensland, I
believe that it would assist our cause to commemorate National Home
Education Week with a public display of celebration in our capital city.
I am suggesting that on the final day of National Home Education Week
we have a morning rally at Roma St Parklands.
I have booked the Amphitheatre for Saturday 24th May. We will have a
Celebration Rally celebrating family and home education that day. I am
asking all home educators, their friends, their families and their
extended families to come and join us in a public display.

- When

Saturday 24th May. 10:00 am till 11:30 am

- Where

Roma Street Parklands, Brisbane. Amphitheatre (NOT Celebration Lawn,
near the waterfall, it was too hot and too few facilities.)

- Who

All home educators, family, extended family, friends etc. We want as
many people as possible, to make this a stunning visual spectacle of
smiles, colour and warm relationships. It is on Saturday so that
FATHERS and GRADUATES AND PAST HOME SCHOOLERS can attend.

- What

90 minute program celebrating home education and family. The program
will include: items presented by children and families
a brief address by a mum
a brief address by a dad
parade of graduates
interview of 2 graduates
parade of flags by the children
craft tables and displays of work (please bring your own table by
arrangement with me.)

- Details

Arrive by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
Flags - please make flags for you and your children to wave during the
event.
Size: approximately 1m. x ˝ m. on a piece of light dowell.
Shape: rectangle, triangle, whatever you like!
Colour: North of Brisbane River, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg etc. BLUE
South of Brisbane River, Gold Coast, NSW etc. YELLOW
Western region, Toowoomba etc. RED
Some may want to make good quality signs with pro-family pro-home school
statements like “Home grown kids” etc. etc.

- Items

If you would like to present an item at the event, please contact me
first. Items are to be of good quality, done in modest attire and are
to be family-honouring. They are to represent the beauty of what home
education stands for.

- Tables

To showcase our work, achievements etc, contact me to reserve a place
for your regional/family table. Places are limited. Regions, coordinate
and supply their own tables. My suggestion is that we do not showcase
our different types of home education (eg. natural learners, structured
learning, own program, ACE program etc.) this year.   We can show those
distinctives next year. Because of the Home School Law Review it would
be wise to focus just on the home education theme, and stand present an
emphasis on unity in home schooling. There will be an information table
at the event which will have a representative of each of the different
types of home education, to assist with further enquiries.

- Cost

An offering will be received to cover costs. We need $800! Please come
prepared. (Approximately $10 per family)

I know that this event will cost us all time, petrol and money. But, I
am asking you to come to this event despite the personal costs. We need
a large crowd to make it a success. We want to make a unique statement
to this state about home education and family. Come and make it with
us.

It is a great reason to come to the city and to enjoy a great family day
out in Brisbane. Pack the car, bring a picnic lunch and be a part of
history!
I look forward to seeing you there.
