Saint-Venant Equations and required Boundary Conditions  M.J. Abedini
 May 08, 2006 06:49 PDT

Dear Colleagues

I have a question on type of upstream and downstream boundary conditions
when using Saint-Venant eqs. As you know, potentially, we could have three
different BCs for either upstream or Downstream as Q=Q(t), h=h(t)
and Q=Q(h) or h=h(Q). Combining these three conditions lead to nine
options. Can we objectively eliminate those options where Saint-Venant
eqs. could not accommodate them either due to programming problem or physical
situation? As an example, Q=Q(h) for both upstream and downstream won't
work as there is no source of transient involved.

Your prompt response regarding paper, contact address or ... will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Abedini
