WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND GEOLOGY
HYDROLOGIC TECHNICIAN
Western Kentucky University, Department of Geography and Geology is=20
seeking applications for a Hydrologic Technician. This is a 12-month,=20
grant funded position with the opportunity for renewal based on=20
availability of funds and performance.
Responsibilities:
=B7 Performs streamflow gagging, water quality monitoring, and suspended=
=20
sediment sampling at a network of sites on the Upper Green River in=20
Kentucky.
=B7 Duties to include: installation, calibration and maintenance of=20
hydrologic and water quality instrumentation including pressure=20
transducers, multiparameter water quality sondes, and automatic water=20
samplers.
=B7 Collects discharge measurements and develops rating curves.
=B7 Operates and maintains data logging and telemetry equipment.
=B7 Reviews primary monitoring data for quality control and assurance.
=B7 Field collection of suspended sediment samples during stormflow=20
periods.
=B7 Laboratory analysis of suspended sediment samples.
=B7 Maintenance of field and laboratory databases in consultation with=20
project manager.

Required Qualifications:
=B7 BS/BA Degree in Geography, Geology, Earth Science, or a related field.
=B7 Basic knowledge of hydrology, fluvial sediment transport processes,=20
and field techniques for hydrologic and sediment data collection.
=B7 Field experience with streamflow gagging and water quality=20
instrumentation.
=B7 Ability to work independently and supervise student field assistants.
=B7 Ability to solve problems as they arise in the course of field=20
operations.
=B7 Experience with computer processing, analysis, and visualization of=20
environmental data.
Desired Qualifications:
=B7 Master=92s Degree in Geosciences or other environmental field.
=B7 Familiarity with environmental sensors and electronics and data=20
logging technology.
=B7 Field experience with installation of streamflow gagging and water=20
quality instrumentation.
=B7 Skill in trouble shooting operational problems with sensors and=20
sampling equipment.
=B7 Experience with ADCP technology.
=B7 Experience with depth integrated suspended sediment samplers and=20
sampling techniques.
=B7 Laboratory experience with suspended sediment concentration analysis.
=B7 Familiarity with environmental database design and maintenance.
Salary Grade: 106 Expected Salary Range: $2,250.00 - $2,334.00 per=20
month.=20=20
