Re: I&M Canal and Henepin Canal parks closing  Mike Kruger

I'm still a bit lost here. When they close the Hennepin Canal state park, are they closing the [lame and seemingly little used] visitor's center, actually closing the trail itself (e.g. "no trespassing'), and/or saying they will do no maintenance?

In other words, is there really a plan here, or just Blago's posturing? After all, he got to be America's most unpopular governor on merit. http://mikekr.blogspot.com/2008/08/whos-popular-governor.html

Michigan did something similar to Kal-Haven and Van Buren trail state parks in SW Michigan. Maintenance got taken over by Van Buren County [even the parts in Kalamazoo County], although the trails are still called state parks. That's probably not an option on the entire length of Hennepin or I&M, but may be an option for parts in, say, Grundy County.

Good post, DLBOWEN.
We should do both. We should be good soldiers for bike advocacy and
promptly make contact when our advocacy organizations ask us to, and we
should use our resourcefulness to offer solutions.
