Seminars To Train Adults How to Teach Bike Safety to Children
AURORA, IL - The League of Illinois Bicyclists invites persons
who want to teach bicycle safety to children to attend one of two free
seminars being held Saturday, Oct. 25 at REI stores in Schaumburg and
Oakbrook Terrace.
The 90-minute classes will be at 11 a.m. at 1209 E Golf Road,
Schaumburg, and 2:30 p.m. 17W160 22nd St., Oakbrook Terrace.
"There's more to bike safety than putting on a helmet and
stopping at stop signs," said Donnie Miller, a nationally certified safety
instructor who developed the curriculum. "We will give adults advice and
materials on how to help children learn to ride safely in all kinds of
situations."
Miller added, "We invite anyone who instructs groups of
children, or even their own, to attend so they can spread bike safety
messages to as many youngsters as possible." The seminars will also provide
tips on conducting effective bicycle rodeos.
The two seminars are the first of 42 that will be conducted around Illinois
as part of the league's most ambitious campaign ever to promote and teach
bike safety to children. REI, an outdoor store chain, has contributed
$5,000 to the campaign and will host the first two classes.
