Re: OpinionJournal Article: General Malaise  Lewis, Mark

Well, as a general rule, I'm just not reading any more hit pieces on the
candidates. I really just don't care that much and I can do without the
rancor, moving up on the Hill the way I am. So I had seen this earlier and
didn't get read closely beyond the first and last paragraph. She may have
some very fine points but I'm not interested in reading them.

Besides, these sorts of things make no sense to me on it's premise. It's as
if there are ice cream fans and pie fans and the ice cream fans, giving up
on convincing pie fans to actually just order the ice cream ala cart, then
want pie fans to AT LEAST order their pie ala mode, so that they can enjoy
the pie fan's desert too, when the pie fans are scratching their head
wondering why anybody would ruin a good piece of pie that way, and why they
should share it in the first place? Order your own desert according to your
own tastes. Something like that, anyway.

Or more precisely, here is a Republican using her criteria weighted her way,
which is fine, but that's what makes her a Republican and it doesn't
necessarily translate. If she's so worried about the good of the country,
why doesn't she advocate getting Bush (or Cheney) out of office and putting
a Lugar or a Warner or a McCain or Ms. X. in there? How about a little pie
to go with that ice cream? Nope? Never once. I'd be receptive to that,
but that's not going to happen in a million years. Ok - that's not her
function. Pretty arrogant of the ice cream fans to think that for the good
of the meal, you need to eat the flavor and type of desert they would order
for you.

She'll "take" Kerry or Lieberman or even Edwards? How very considerate of
her. I'm supposed to believe she'll consider actually voting for them?
Please. You've got to be kidding. Why should any pie fan care what flavor
of pie an ice cream fan would "take" if they know the ice cream fan is still
going to order the ice cream anyway? It's ridiculous.

You send us things about why Kerry is unsuitable. You'll send us things
about why Clark is unsuitable. Why Dean is unsuitable. If the front
runners changed, one suspects you would send us things about why they're
unsuitable. You don't like pie. Got it and that's great, but I don't know
why pie haters think pie likers use the same criteria when they select pies.

Anyway, the real point is the one up top. I really can't tell one candidate
from the other yet. Personally, I'm just trying not to pay much attention
to this sort of thing because I don't want to go in all worked up, thinking
the Majority is the enemy. The enemy is the enemy and my job is to figure
out the best way to prepare to fight him, not the guy across the isle. So
I'm going through some conscious steps prepare to do that properly. Part of
that is to not engage in this sort of thing again. I just don't need it. I
said that on the NSRT and I'll stick by that on the last few days here, too.

Mark
