"It is impossible to backpack the 31 mile Pow Wow Trail in even 3 days when it has 1,200 treefalls blocking the trail and you can' see the rock cairns."                                                         --   Martin Kubik after backpacking the Pow Wow Trail last Labor Day week

Martin Kubik, founder of the Kekekabic Trail Club and the BWA Committee will speak about the incredible and yet ignored resource in the BWCA Wilderness – 200 miles of hiking trails.  How did ordinary citizens save 140 miles of trails in last 20 years?  Why do hikers need the US Forest Service? And more importantly, why does the US Forest Service need volunteers?  What is red tape and how does it impact volunteers?  What does the future hold for the Pow Wow hiking trail after the Pagami Creek Fire?  Martin has recently met with the USFS officials and will answer these and many other questions.

Martin Kubik is a former US Forest Service fire fighter, BWCA guide, and past recipient of several environmental and volunteer leadership awards.  He has canoed backpacked, and snowshoed BWCAW extensively.   He can be reached at 651-214-5849 cell or by email at wtra-@yahoo.com
