I agree with Curtis Russell's comments about money grants to LAB, but
I think that much more should be discussed.
The key issue is the extent to which the grants further the proper
aims of LAB. Consider what used to be called the Bicycle Federation
of America. That was a grant getting operation, pure and simple, and
what it did was inimical to the interests of lawful, competent
cyclists, because that was what the grantors instructed. I know of no
organization that is giving away funds to support the cause of
lawful, competent cyclists. (There once was one, the estate of an old
cyclist, or similar, but small and probably gone by now.) Therefore,
the effort of trying to get funds, and the use of those funds if and
when obtained, turns LAB into something it shouldn't be and diverts
LAB from its proper course.
