New novel from author of The Lazy Crossdresser  Charlie Girl
 Jun 16, 2005 12:55 PDT

Hey, it's been a long time since I've posted on this list, and I have no
idea how many of you guys are still here. But I wanted to give you a
heads up! My first novel, Choir Boy, is finally available in good
bookstores and online.

Choir Boy is a bizarre, dark and often silly story of a choirboy
surrounded by unreliable adults, whose voice is about to change. Berry
is desperate to remain a choirboy, because it makes him feel pure and
beautiful, so he convinces a clinic to give him female hormones, which
keep his voice from changing. The pills work, but he also starts to grow
breasts, and he questions both his gender identity and what he wants to
do with his life.

If you only read one transgender religious adventure story this year,
please consider making it Choir Boy. Choir Boy contains: Viagra
sermons, dueling psychiatrists, the bitch cherry, pickled boys, the
Green Anteater, aquatic brain tanks, punching lessons, career day, the
Mack Hat, the Twelve Step Room and Teeneurosis Magazine.

You can get Choir Boy at Amazon.com:

Or Powells.com:

You can also find it in your local bookstore.

Scott Heim, author of Mysterious Skin, called Choir Boy "daring,
strange, emotionally complex, and completely engrossing." Pagan Kennedy,
author of The Exes, said Choir Boy "could be the script for an
after-school special aired in Bizarro-land."

The San Francisco Chronicle said, "Berry's unconventional coming of age
is at heart no different from that of any teen who feels like an
outsider, and it's a journey almost anyone can relate to. Haven't we
all, at one point or another, felt like strangers in our own bodies?"
Bitch Magazine called Choir Boy "sometimes surreal and often hilarious
... a boldly whimsical fable."

Thanks for reading this email, and have a great week!

Best,
Charlie Anders
