1. Welcome
************************************************

Hi

Well, the Christmas tree is up and decorated (we did
it on Saturday together with the children) and so far
they haven't smashed any baubles or pulled over the tree.

It looks nice and all three of them are excitedly waiting
for tomorrow (when they will get presents from Christkind)
and Thursday (when they will wake up to find that Father
Christmas brought more presents during the night).

We just have to remember to leave out something to eat and
drink for Father Christmas and the reindeer (a slice of cake
and a glass of beer for Father Christmas and a carrot for
the reindeer - last year I got the cake and beer and Julia
got the carrot!)

A very exciting few days ahead for us.

I hope you enjoy the next couple of weeks, however you spend it.

Now on with the show.

;-)

Each of the five sentences below contains one
mistake. Try to find the mistake and then correct
the sentence. Check your answers at the end of
the newsletter. Good luck!

1. Last Friday I flyed to England.

2. England loosed the match against Brazil.

3. Yesterday I must see the doctor.

4. I've lived in Vienna since 4 years.

5. I did have a good time at the party

3. Idiom
************************************************

#-# to not take no for an answer #-#

If you won't take no for an answer it means that you
will only accept an answer of yes to your request.

Often when someone is in a powerful position they
can request something and expect to get it. If the
answer to their request is no they may still request
it - they won't take no for an answer.

Imagine that Bill Gates wanted you to work for him.
If he offered you $100,000 a year and you said no
he could offer you more and more to make you say
yes - he wouldn't take no for an answer.

By the way - Mr Gates, if you're reading this
newsletter, I would say no to $100,000 a year, but
$1 million might change my mind ;-)

5. Jokes
************************************************

At the end of mass one Sunday a priest told the
congregation, "Next week, I plan to talk to you
all about the sin of lying. To help you understand
my sermon, I would like you all to read Mark 17."

The following Sunday, as he prepared to give
the sermon, the priest asked, "Could those of
you who have read Mark 17 please raise your
right hand?"

Everybody in the church lifted their right hand.

The priest smiled at this and said, "Thank you.
Mark only has sixteen chapters. Now, I will
give my sermon on lying..."

Q Did you hear about the American Indian who
drank fifty cups of tea?

A They found him dead in his tea pee.

(An American Indian's tent is called a wigwam or
a teepee.)

A woman sees a beautiful bracelet in the window
of a jewellery shop and decides that she wants
it, but she doesn't have enough money to buy it.

Then she has an idea. She goes into the shop and
asks if they will hold/save the bracelet for her
if she pays a small deposit.

The jeweller says that for a deposit of $50 he
will hold the bracelet for her for four weeks.

Then he asks her, "When will you come to collect
and pay for the bracelet?"

The woman replies, "My husband will come in and
pay for the bracelet as soon as he does
something unforgivable. Probably this weekend!"
