+++ SHANE MCMAHON UPDATE. Shane McMahon was still working with WWE as
of Friday so even though he announced he is leaving the company that
decision wasn't ushered in by a situation that made him blow up and walk
out on the job. So he is leaving on good terms and isn't leaving due to
being upset or emotional about something.
You got to love the Internet though where his decision has been
plastered all over the place as one that means the sky is falling in WWE
and the future of WWE is bleak now with Stepanie & Triple H being the
only two left standing to take over once Vince McMahon winds down. Top
that with Linda McMahon leaving as well to tend to her political career
and WWE is apparently doomed. Let me add that Shane had nothing do with
creative outside of tossing in ideas every so often. The idea that his
leaving the company is going to cripple them with Stephanie & HHH having
more creative control is absurd because Stephanie has total creative
control after her father decides if he likes what she does and nine
times out of ten the ideas that he doesn't like are pretty damn good
ones.
Vince's creative touch has always been a tad on the nutty ecentric
sexually explicit dysfunctional potty sophmoric humor end of the
spectrum and that is the stuff that makes TV no matter if Shane or
Stephanie thought it wasn't a good idea. Vince once pushed to have a
sexual relationship angle involving himself and Stephanie and Stephanie
said absolutely not. Vince wanted to push a storyline where it would
turn out that Katie Lea Burchill was actually Paul Burchill's sister but
they were lovers and that never happened mainly because Stephanie didn't
follow through with it knowing it was not a good idea. So the voice of
reason within WWE creative over the last few years has been Stephanie
McMahon. And the idea that HHH having more influence on creative as a
bad thing is absurd because he has always been a student of the game and
a guy that loves the business so much that he finishes matches on torn
quads. So HHH being ahead of Shane in this isntance is a good thing and
not a bad thing. The trap existed for Shane to gain a ton of creative
control, ala his father, and turn out to be the albatross that killed
the business completely. Shane wanted to be one of the boys in the ring
and he did not want to be a corporate stooge, which oddly enough was his
calling with the company. If Shane had creative control it would be so
easy for him to use himself in the ring, like his father has
historically done for better or for worse, and then he would have killed
off business by focusing on himself. So again in this instance it IS a
good thing that he doesn't have that control or ability to abuse that
control. Stephanie did work in the ring but she isn't ever seriously
going to be considered one of the boys in the ring and she would never
be able to abuse her power and focus the company around her as an in
ring performer or book herself to win the World Title. So there is no
conern about that ever happenign to kill off business.
So, you say, HHH can. So what? He has already been booked to be that on
TV and if he was booked to be it again on TV how much of a big deal to
the audience would that actually be? None. So the only ego that is
going to be hurt by HHH gaining more power is the ego that is online
trying to make it appear that is a bad thing when it actually is a good
thing.
Why did Shane leave WWE? I don't know. But it wasn't because he wasn't
getting enough power creatively because he would have had that job in
the first place if he wanted it. He didn't want it. He was working in
the department he wanted to focus on and was doing good business for WWE
in that department. Nothing happened within that department that would
throw up red flags to make it appear that he was unhappy or had been
doing a bad job. So his decision to leave had nothing to do with his
performance and or any arguments that may have or may not have happened.
And there was nothing to any story that involves Stephanie & Shane
having a power struggle with Shane losing. All that is good print but
isn't accurate. It appears one of two things has happened with this
story.
Either Shane simply wants to make a mark on his own, like most men want
to do at some time, and doesn't want his legacy to be that he only made
a success of himself in the business world because his daddy gave him a
job that honestly didn't require him to do anything but show up for work
and collect a paycheck. Lets be honest. Dead weight (George Bush Jr
for example) can be carried to incredible positions based on familiy
name alone and that doesn't require them to be good at their jobs to
keep them or get them. Shane could have been a lousy business man and a
lousy promoter and a total goober and still collected a six figure
paycheck because the son of Vince McMahon. And I bet a lot of people
think he is not as intelligent or capable to make a mark outside of WWE
because he won't have his father protecting him. And maybe that is a
good reason why Shane opted to leave. Or he isn't leaving and this is
all some type of an angle that they are running and if that is the case,
I don't think it was a wise one. But since Vince posted a message on
WWE Corporate about Shane leaving it appears it is not an angle.
+++ YOUTUBE. WWE had those youtube videos removed due to intellectual
property reasons to protect Linda. That's kind of amusing.
+++ SMACKDOWN THOUGHTS. I like that they want to make it appear that the
young guard on SD is rising and as good as the old guard. But I don't
think it was a wise decision to put Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre and
Eric Escobar on team SD at the PPV. But now that they have done that
they better well have DX bumping for crazy for them and making at least
two of them look strong. That is me saying that HHH or HBK better do
the job clean to Drew or Eric, because I doubt they'll have Ziggler look
strong in the end.
Chris Jericho began the show to set up his team, Kane came out and he is
on the team.
Ziggler beat Finlay & Knox to earn a spot. Ctyme Tyme beat Hart Dynasty
to earn spots.
Vince booked Punk v. UT in a submissions match with Teddy Long at
ringside and Scott Armstrong as the ref for the belt next week in a skit
with Punk.
Eric Escobar beat Matt Hardy to earn a spot on team SD.
They did the dirt sheet to set up Morrison v. Miz. Entertaining as
always.
Drew McIntyre beat Ron Killings to earn a spot on team SD.
Rey Misterio beat Batista and they are still friends. They did a promo
before the match about remaining friends after the PPV, won't happen.
Punk attacked Rey but Batista ran him off.
