+++ WWE BRAGGING RIGHTS THOUGHTS. I was not enthusiastic going in to the
PPV. In fact, I was only looking forward to the Morrison v. Miz match,
the Smackdown v. RAW and the fatal four way match for the World Title.
But in the end it surprised me that the Randy Orton v. John Cena Iron
Match actually made the show for me and most of what I wanted to see was
sort of flat.
Morrison v. Miz had a good solid match but it didn't seem to work well
and in spots it was sloppy. Miz going over makes all the sense in the
world if they are going to continue the feud and maybe lead to a
unification match at WM between the two (lets hope). Solid work out of
these two but nothing spectacular. I look forward to hearing what Miz
has to say tonight. And don't think they hafd to give Miz the win to
fit it in to the story of the show because it didn't matter who won the
diva's match.
Beth Phoenix & Michelle McCool & Natalya beat Kelly Kelly & Gail Kim &
Melina to even the odds up 1 to 1 to make the gigantic 7 man tag be the
match to settle it all, duh moment. Beth beat Melina for her squad to
even the night. The match was good but again sloppy and they did not
seem to gel with each other in the ring.
Gigantic fourteen man tag match was won by Team Smackdown when another
DUH moment happened and Big Show decided he was a heel after all and
turned on Team RAW by chokeslamming Kofi Kingston off the top rope and
giving Chris Jericho easy pickings to pin him. HHH tried to confront
Show but was knocked out with his punch (hey at least they are
consistent in putting his punch over these days and HHH did not play
super man and not sell it). The win by SD actually makes all the sense
in the world due to the turn by Show and makes HHH & HBK look like
goobers for not seeing that writing on the wall. I mean seriously, is
Show going to sacrifice his Unified tag titles for some goofey trophy
when he can turn and just not go to RAW if he doesn't want too. The
match itself was a mixed bag and tons of spots that hit or missed but
the finish was predictably good.
Undertaker beat Batista & Rey Misterio & Cm Punk to retain his title
with one good hip by tombstoning Big Dave and pinning him. The story in
this one was that Big Dave was headed for the title win but kept getting
stopped by his best friend, Misterio who was also trying to win the
title. After the match they had Josh Matthews run to the ring to
interview the two latino buddies. Rey kept going on and on about how
they were both so close but just lost their chance. Big Dave then cut a
hell of a promo and the picture of his with having not shaved for a few
days made the interview for me. He looked like a guy that was losing
his mind and frustrated. He told the audience that he did not think
they were close but that he was close and Misterio cost him the title
and he was tired of his best friend stabbing him in the back. He told
Rey he was going to rip his head off and then said he was not kidding
and clotheslined Rey. He then beat Rey down big time and left him
laying. So that is how they explain UT v. Batista continuing. I liked
the turn but don't think it worked on a lot of levels because you could
be sympathetic about Dave being upset since Rey did cost him the belt on
a few occasions and didn't really have a chance to win himself.
John Cena beat Randy Orton in an iron man match that only lasted 59:55
seconds with the last remaining 5 seconds not accounted for and
according to their own rules the match did not oficially conclude and
upon further review that means Randy Orton should either have the match
re-started tonight to play out those 5 seconds or get a rematch (LOL).
The rules were as follows: Following a pin or submission the clock is
stopped and there MUST be a 20 second rest period before the clock
starts and the match resumes. Cena got the decisive tap out fall with 5
seconds on the clock and they declared he was the winner of the match as
the clock then expired. But the reality of their own system is the 5
seconds should have still been on the clock and 20 seconds should have
run off giving Orton 5 seconds to somehow even the falls. My pt here is
that if that was a planned loop hole, kudos. If it wasn't then they are
a stupid company to do that. Personally I think what they should do is
have the 5 seconds tonight and have Orton even up the falls and then
have overtime as the main event on RAW. First pin wins it all. I say
that because it would make more sense to have Cena leave RAW on RAW then
on the PPV before RAW because no matter what he was appearing tonight
even if he did lose.
Cena was legit busted open and there was some concern about his health
in the back but also they couldn't do the planned crowd spots if he was
bleeding. So they sent out the "medical staff: to clean him up and fix
it so he wasn't bleeding in the audience, which would have netted them a
fine and possibly risked the show being stopped.
+++ RAW TONIGHT AT 9PM ON USA NETWORK. Kyle Busch & Joey Logano host
the show and I wonder if they'll bring back Bob Holly to play Spark Plug
tonight. Busch & Cena have paired up in other areas (commercials, etc)
and they might have Busch as a heel due to his rivalry with Cena. That
would be one way to arrange another Orton v. Cena match..
