I have compared Philips BD player with the Uni on my Fujitsu 55" plasma
and the difference is not what I had expected.There is more detail and
sharpness but the Uni looks more film like. Overall not blown away by
BD, but it may be the player has something to do with the results as
well.

Recently I had the opportunity to compare a bd vs DVD in my Panny BD50
vs Unidisk 1.1.
That is because the bd had a "digital copy" as extra.
This is what I found:
- The bd picture was very good (1080p/24) through my VP50 scaler, clean
and sharp but with minor overdone blacks
- The DVD played on the Uni (576p) looked only very slightly less sharp,
however color patches looked a little dirty and uneven, but only a
littlebit. Black levels on my Samsung LE46H626 were much less difficult
to set correctly.
Conclusion:
DVD image performance of the Uni is still to be beaten over here!
