RE: 3 of my SACDs won't play.  Steve

Ok...the plot thickens.

Down-revving to 03.04 didn't help, but moving back to 217 did.

I moved everything back up and discovered something weird (ok, something
more weird).

If I go into user options then tap the play to get out of it, the SACDs that
are having problems read and play perfectly. If I turn off the Unidisk or
eject and put them in normal, I get a disc error. If I go into option again
and hit play, it can read and play them again.

It is only 3 discs doing this...but it does make me think it certainly isn't
my Silver Disc engine...

Hey back Barend,

Reason I haven't sent my uni back to the shop yet, I also suspect it a mech
issue.

Only these 3 disks are causing the problem but yes, I have been having the
same problem with my play skipping a few tracks in and starting there.

I can hit 1 and get it to start from the beginning but it is weird.

I will try to "down-rev" my mech version and see if that fixes the problem.

Hi Steve,
I have her on a DVD-Audio only, so that's no fair comparison...
Suppose you already:
- cleaned the disc
- rubbed it against your sweater
- put in the freezer fore 20 minutes, wiped off the frost and retried
If all that doesn't help it seems like a laser fault to me, that's the
MECH firmware.
Since you have a newer board, chances are you can redo the MECH to the
prior version yourself, if you have the RS232 cable.
But if I were you (and your Uni is probably under 5 yrs warranty, isn't
it?) I would try some more discs and return them with the player.
Different topic:
Had both Uni's upgraded recently, sad to notice many discs still don't
start at the beginning, but skip the first few secs.
