Speakers:
Colleen Anderson, instructional and e-resources Librarian,
Bryant University library
Janet Morahan-Martin, professor of Applied Psychology, Bryant University
Enoch Park, instructional technologist, Bryant University library
Topic:
The presentation will focus on how Bryant librarians and faculty are
working collaboratively to create virtual learning spaces within Blackboard
sites. The librarians are building customized library modules within
Blackboard sites, i.e. the modules include the most appropriate library
resources to complete each particular course assignment.
A typical library module includes, at minimum: 1) the most appropriate
library databases for the course, 2)useful websites, 3)a link to
e-reserves, 4)and information on how to contact a reference
librarian. Depending on the course assignment, each librarian uses his/her
judgment to decide what other resources might be useful to add.
The InstructionalTechnology Specialist is a key contributor to this
Blackboard initiative, since he adds each librarian to individual sites as
a course builder.
This initiative was started in the spring of 2005 with one psychology
course. It has grown to include approximately 30 course sites. The
presentation will cover how and why the initiative got started, the
perceived benefits, and the process for developing the initiative.
