I write to send Christian greetings to Bishop Utleg and to thank him
for speaking publically about the tactics used by the big corporations
to force acceptance of GMOs in the Philippines. It is good to hear
about other clergy in different countries who are working to help people
understand about the tactics of power-broking and the unscientific
arguments that corporations like Monsanto use.
We have a similar situation here also, where the government pretends
to listen to people and then goes ahead and lets companies like
Monsanto, Aventis and Novartis plant unwanted GM crops anyway. Near my
parish in England there have been secret GMO plantings and some clergy
had to work with the newspapers to force the government to admit what
was happening.
It would be good to hear more about what is happening in the
Philippines so that I can share information with the churches in
England. Is it possible to send me by e-mail the text of the Bishop's
comments or any more information about the church's role in this?
Please forward this letter if possible.
Yours sincerely,
Rev Paul Cawthorne
