International Sharing and Mass Action in the Philippines  MASIPAG
 Sep 02, 2002 21:48 PDT
Dear friends,
Welcome back to Masipag News and Views.

We would like to invite you to the parallel activities and protests we
are planning around the CGIAR AGM that will be held in Manila from
October 28-November 1.

We are part of the organizing collective of this event, along with
RESIST, GRAIN and Via Campesina. The event promises to be huge! We have
already had some confirmations from international representatives of
affected communities, and many people will be coming from Asia and the
Philippines.

We are excited about the opportunity to make an impact on CGIAR (the
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research) when they are
here in the Philippines. For many years, the CGIAR AGM has been held in
Washington D.C far away from farmers and affected communities. This time
we have the opportunity to take our grievances and problems directly to
the decision-makers! Although many people in many countries have
protested against, and exposed the problems of CGIAR institutions, we
feel that this AGM gives a great opportunity to join our voices at an
international forum.

At this stage we are planning to have four major activities associated
with the meeting:
1. Parallel conference for one day that would present critiques of, and
some alternatives to, the CGIAR system.
2. Street exhibition with stalls, tents and displays that would showcase
problems of CGIAR held in an open space near the AGM. Public and media
invited to attend.
3. Workshops for students, public, media on important issues.
4. Mass action/protest on one day of the meetings.

Thank you. We look forward to working with you on this and we hope to
see you for this important event!.

We will send out updates as the time gets closer. Please feel free to
contact us at masi-@mozcom.com for more information
