canine megaesophagus (megaesophagus) |
| Purpose: |
This list is a forum for owners of dogs with megaesophagus to learn about the condition, exchange ideas about coping with it, share outcomes of alternative treatments, and provide/ receive emotional support. Canine megaesophagus is a serious and potentially fatal malformation of the esophagus (the tube connecting the dog's mouth to it's stomach). Dogs with the malformation often regurgitate after eating or drinking, and are at high risk for malnutrition and aspiration pnuemonia. However, by modifying the dog's eating habits and viligantly watching for signs of pneumonia, many dogs can live long lives. |
