Early ancestors? Mettis?

Dear Ben,
The list of Mettis people that you found shows that that variety of the
name was used in later times as well. It is interesting to note that
they all come from Hoogwoud and Abbekerk. It is at Abbekerk that our
first known ancestor married. It gives me a good reason to suspect that
there is a link between the two families. Hoogwoud lies very close to
Abbekerk.
The catholic registers of Hoogwoud are at Hoorn as well: baptisms &
marriages are available 1700-1724, a gap until 1739 and from then on
complete; deaths only from 1744.
But I have the impression that these registers were already filmed by
the Mormons and are therefore available on their website.
The Hoogwouder Weeren and the Abbekerker Weeren form a particularily wet
area between the two villages of Abbekerk and Hoogwoud. Just halfway
were a few farmhouses along a road: that hamlet was called de Weeren.
From there it is about 7 kilometres south to Wognum (and another 5
kilometer to Hoorn).
Halfway lies Benningbroek, and the hamlet de Wijzend (where the earlier
Mettisses had land) close by, in fact next to Nibbixwoud.
In order to get a little more clarity about who is who I looked up the
individual records on the webpage that you referred to and found that
#3 on your list: Claas Mettis, born about 1731 is indeed # 12 : Claas
Teunis Mettis who married in 1756. His wife is called Dieuwer
Cornelis. I bet that he is a brother of our Pieter Teunis Mettes.
All the other persons that you found on the list are their children.:
Trijntje married Freek Henk; Cornelis married Aaltje Cornelisdr.
Langedijk, Lysbeth married Jacob Cornelisz. Polant, Maartje married
Henk Barendszn. Hoogland and Neeltje married Gerrit Bos.
I checked these names in the general index of "Westfriese Families", but
noone by the name of Henk or Polant, and an abundant number of people
under Bos, Hoogland and Langedijk. But no match on these first names.
If Claas Teunis born 1731 is a brother of Pieter Teunis Mettes, chances
are that Abbekerk/Hoogwoud is the area where to look, and that a member
of the the earlier Benningbroek family moved to Abbekerk. Because of a
mariage that brought land? Notary registers should bring the answer.
Regards to all,
Alex
