The North Colonie School District, State Farm Insurance, and the Town of
Colonie Police Department are planning a "Bike Rodeo" this Saturday, May 13th
from 9 am to Noon, rain or shine at the Blue Creek Elementary School on 100
Clinton Road in Latham, NY. The Bike Rodeo is geared towards elementary school
aged youngsters and teaches bicycle safety. Participants take part in
navigating an obstacle course in the school parking lot, learn about basic bicycle
handling, and earn a bicycle safety "license" with their name and picture.
They are also taught about proper bicycle helmet fit and have an opportunity
to purchase a new helmet at a ridiculously low price.
The organizer of the event is looking for someone that has decent bicycle
mechanic skills and tools that would be able to perform minor bicycle repairs
or adjustments. I would expect a bike stand would be a big help, although not
mandatory. Duties would be performing very basic tasks, such a checking tire
pressure, pumping up tires, checking that brakes are working, and making
sure that nuts and bolts are not falling off or missing. If someone would like
to volunteer in helping out with the mechanics duty and does not have a bike
stand, I could loan one out for the day. If you or someone you know might
be interested in helping out in any way, please contact myself or Lori Blatter
