Fired Up Missouri attacking Tour of Missouri again . . .

Fired Up! Missouri, a Democratic blog, has been attacking the Tour of
Missouri consistently over the past 3 years.
It's the same type of stuff the Sam Page campaign used against Lt Gov
Kinder in last year's campaign--belittling bicyclists & bicycle racers as
spandex-clad effete primadonnas and that sort of thing.

The sad thing is, it seems like they rarely attacking Lt Gov Kinder
himself (who has, after all, put his heart and soul into promoting the
Tour) but it seems like they far more often attack bicycle and
bicyclists--the idea being (apparently) that if the Lieutenant Governor is
associating with this class of losers then he must be the same type of
loser himself.
When they do that, they forgot that about 40% of Missouri bicyclists (the
same proportion as the population as a whole) consider themselves
Democrats.
And 1/3 of Missourians are bicyclists--meaning 1/3 of Democrats are
bicyclists.
In short, they are attacking their own voters and supporters.
Seems like kind of a boneheaded move to me . . .
(MoBikeFed has done several surveys of our own members and other bicycle
groups and found approximately the same breakdown of
Republican/Democrat/Independent among our members and bicyclists as a
whole, as in the overall population of Missouri).
At any rate, if any of you--**especially** those of you who consider
yourselves Democrats--would take the time to register at Fired Up!
Missouri and leave some comments correcting their idiotic misconceptions
about bicycling and bicyclists in Missouri, I think it could really have
an impact in preventing future attacks of this sort.
Fired Up! seems to be leading this anti-bicycling faction within the
Democratic Party and all the ideas that Sam Page used last year in his
anti-Tour-of-Missouri campaign showed up first on Fired Up! Missouri.
The seem to have cut back on the level of vitriol against the Tour this
year, but it it still definitely there.

Attack the other party if you like, but leave your mitts off the
bicyclists--that's the message I'd like them to receive, loud & clear.
It's not only that it's in poor taste, but it is that type of invective
and language that opens the way for people who attack or threaten
bicyclists on the road.
