House transportation bill's elimination of ped funding opposed
by National Rur

Here is the latest on the federal transportation bill:
Key point: 'The National Rural Assembly is against the bill because
it eliminates all funding for pedestrian safety (and rural America
has significant pedestrian fatality rates). It doesn't spend enough
on bridges and it guts the "Safe Routes to School program.'
With the House bill opposed by so many different interests, the focus
is shifting to the Senate bill, which actually has a chance of passing.
The Senate bill has some very serious problems for bicycle and
pedestrian funding as well.
So, please keep those calls to our Senators coming! Key vote will be
this week sometime. Sen McCaskill: 202-224-6154, Sen Blunt: (202)
224-5721; ask is "Please support funding for bicycling & walking, the
Cardin-Cochran Amendment, and the Klobuchar Amendment".
More details on what we are asking the Senators for:
The Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation is a statewide
coalition of bicyclists, walkers, runners, trail organizations and
related businesses which represents over 30,000 Missourians and
advocates on behalf of the state's two million ardent bicyclists and
six million walkers.
