In a few hours it will be exactly one year since I stepped on New
Zealand soil again.
When I got off the plane in Wellington a year ago, I was met by my
parents, and the sun was shining, and a cool Wellington wind was
blowing. It had been three and a half years. Not so long, in the
grand scheme of things, but long enough to feel what it was like to be
away.
I told my parents to take me to Mt Victoria, the best lookout spot in
hilly Wellington, and left the parents behind as I climbed the steps
to the viewpoint. There, I was met by Billy, the other moose, and it
was damn good to see him.
And I looked out over Wellington and thought to myself, time to get started.
This has been a year of getting started. It has been great fun and
very worthwhile.
I miss travelling. I miss Edinburgh. I miss all the great people I
know who are not here in Wellington with me. But here is where I
belong, for the time being at least, and here is where I am happy to
be.
Much love to you all, merry Christmas, happy new year.
Peace.
