1 Ne. 3:7
And it came to pass that I, Nephi,
said unto my father: I will go and do the
things which the Lord hath commanded,
for I know that the Lord giveth no
commandments unto the children of men,
save he shall prepare a way for them that
they may accomplish the thing which he
commandeth them.

Sonnet 498 Reflections on 1 Nephi 3:7

It can’t be fun to do as Nephi did
Oh sure we envy faith like his a lot
But we don’t line up for his type of bid
What he is selling isn’t often bought.
We buy instead the line that other’s sell
The one that says we have to think ahead
And only do what common sense will tell
Be safe, be sure, plan every step you tread.
All Nephi had to work with was his trust
Not knowing in advance the how or when
That God upon declaring what he must
Had done the preparation for his win.
Yeah, that can’t be much fun. And stressful too!
I’ll stick with doing things the way I do.
