Moses 7:18
And the Lord called his people Zion,
because they were of one heart and one
mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and
there was no poor among them.
Hymn #30, “Come, Come, Ye Saints”
Sonnet 500 Reflections on Moses 7:18
By Tom Matkin July 9, 2009
It’s hard to even dream of such a place
Where everyone is of one heart and mind
And where there is not even any trace
Of anything unrighteous or unkind.
And more that even that I find it hard
To fathom life without the poor around
No weak, no foolish, and no lame or scarred
No low, no slow, no simple and no clown.
No hungry and no hostages of fate
No puny or pathetic hanging back
No beggars and no blind to contemplate
No lazy with their lives all out of whack.
And where to you suppose that you will be
When Zion is declared to be poor-free?
