Mosiah 5:15
Therefore, I would that ye should
be steadfast and immovable, always
abounding in good works, that Christ,
the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you
his, that you may be brought to heaven,
that ye may have everlasting salvation
and eternal life, through the wisdom, and
power, and justice, and mercy of him who
created all things, in heaven and in earth,
who is God above all. Amen.
Hymn # 113, “Our Savior’s Love”
Sonnet 501 Reflections on Mosiah 5:15
By Tom Matkin, July 10, 2009
The choice we think is between being strong
And being human and, of course, then weak
And while we don’t enjoy being wrong
We nurture this as if it meant we’re meek.
But really, everyone is constant and steadfast
We seldom waiver in the things we clasp
Our grip is always strong enough to last
It’s all about what things we choose to grasp.
The sinner may be faithful to his sin
Immovable as any saint can be
It’s clear his choice of what to hold won’t win
And yet he clings to it so steadfastly!
In fact addiction therapy is there
For those who so abound in their despair.
