Amos 3:7
Surely the Lord God will do nothing,
but he revealeth his secret unto his
servants the prophets.
Hymn #19, “We Thank Thee O God for a
Prophet”
Sonnet 515 Reflections on Amos 3:7
By Tom Matkin August 10, 2009
Who doesn’t love to learn of secret things
Like truthful treasures, valuable and rare
That’s why they market those decoder rings
To those who want both secrets and to share.
And peeping wizards too and magic men
Will make a claim to special powers of sight
By checking out your tea leaves now and then
Or gazing into certain stars by night.
Yet even if these sorceries were true
No value to the information found
Has ever been confirmed upon review
Such secrets being patently unsound.
But God reveals his secrets one by one
To prophets before anything is done.
