D&C 14:7
And, if you keep my commandments
and endure to the end you shall have
eternal life, which gift is the greatest of
all the gifts of God.
Hymn #303, “Keep the Commandments”
Sonnet 517 Reflections on D&C 14:7
By Tom Matkin August 24, 2009
The poorest parent gives his child some gift
If nothing of this world’s goods and strife
Nor even good example as a lift
At least the parent gave the gift of life.
And the Richest and the Best of parents too
May not deliver much of this earth’s wealth
But promise in his own due time to do
What’s needed for his child’s eternal health
And those of us with some of this life’s means
Will give from what we have to help our brood
Extending by these tried and true routines
That value of the family we’ve viewed.
To do better than the poorest, then, I’d guess
That view must be consistent with the Best.
